Podaturpet, and the places that make its story.

Follow the threads from a weaving town to its village neighbourhoods, festival streets and the hills of the wider region.

A place of looms, fields and everyday enterprise

Podaturpet’s own civic profile brings two livelihoods into the same picture: weaving and agriculture. It describes handloom work, powerlooms linked to homes, and paddy cultivation. The town’s textile identity belongs within that wider working landscape.

The profile traces the Town Panchayat to 1939. That date marks civic administration; it does not establish when people first settled here. For a visitor, the most rewarding starting point is the relationship between cloth, work and the town around it.

The district publishes separate village-panchayat lists for Pallipet, R.K. Pet and Tiruttani blocks. These selected entries help you identify places by their administrative area. They are a regional directory, not a distance ranking or a list of villages within Podaturpet town limits.

Amman festivals and the town’s shared calendar

The town profile lists an Amman festival lasting seven days in September and identifies Pooniyamman temple on Ponniyamman Koil Street. This gives the town story a specific local landmark and a festival tradition to explore.

Treat that month as a description in the published profile, not a confirmed calendar for this year. Ask the temple or local organisers for the actual dates and programme before arranging a visit.

Reading the town within Tiruvallur’s history

Tiruvallur district’s history records its formation through the division of the former Chengalpattu district. Its account includes the Tiruttani area and Pallipattu sub-taluk among the territories brought together. This helps explain why local history appears under more than one administrative name in older records.

District history provides a regional frame. A date associated with a dynasty, temple or neighbouring town should not automatically become Podaturpet’s founding date.

Temple hills and Andhra connections

These are wider regional connections, separate from the village directory above. For practical sightseeing information, use our places-to-visit guide.

Tiruttani: a hill, 365 steps and devotional song

Tiruttani’s Murugan temple is one of the six Arupadai Veedu shrines. The district’s account describes its 365 steps and the December 31 step festival, when devotees ascend with Tiruppugazh singing. It also identifies Aadi Krittikai as a major celebration.

This is a story of poetry and worship as well as a hilltop landmark. The district connects the shrine with Arunagirinathar’s devotional work. Festival access and arrangements should be checked with the temple when planning a visit.

Nagari and Tiruttani: names on the town’s regional map

The Podhaturpet town profile names Nagari and Tiruttani in its surrounding-town information and identifies Tiruttani as its nearest railway station. Those names are useful starting points for understanding the town’s connections on either side of the Tamil Nadu–Andhra Pradesh area.

Kailasakona: a waterfall in the wider landscape

Across in Andhra Pradesh, the Ministry of Tourism places Kailasakona waterfall in Narayanavanam mandal, Tirupati district. It describes a Shiva–Parvathi temple near the falls and locates the approach along the Uthukkottai–Puttur–Tirupati road.

The setting adds a nature chapter to a region often introduced through temples and textiles. It is a separate regional excursion, not a village inside Podaturpet. Check current access and weather before travelling.
